Stimulation Intensity and Cycle LengthUpdated a month ago
Initial stimulation intensity and cycle length are personal to each user, so no single recommended setting is provided. The level you need may be different from that which others require. To find the most effective settings for you, please follow these simple steps:
1. Use the video linked via the QR code on the device packaging to position the device correctly on your wrist.
2. The level you use must be sufficient to activate the area of your brain that controls your movements and processes sensations. It is this area that the nerve you are stimulating at your wrist (the median nerve) connects with. You should feel a strong but comfortable tingling sensation in your thumb, index finger and middle finger. If you feel it towards your little finger, the device may be positioned too centrally on your wrist.
3. Finding the right stimulation setting may take some trial and error. Start at level 1 and gradually increase the intensity until the stimulation feels strong but comfortable. Pay attention to how each level feels, avoid increasing it higher than is comfortable, and remember that stronger stimulation does not necessarily mean better results.
4. You will be aware when you have reached your motor threshold because your finger will begin to twitch. The twitch means your brain has received the electric pulse from your wrist and sent a message to your fingers to move. When you have reached your motor threshold you should turn the intensity setting down. You don’t need your fingers to be twitching for your brain to receiving sufficient levels of stimulation. Your motor threshold is higher than you need. We have demonstrated this scientifically. Please be aware that some people may have a higher threshold than others and this may not be reached even at the highest stimulation level of 24.
5. It is safe to play around with the level you set to see what level gives you the relief you need. Your motor threshold will naturally change over time so if you feel you aren’t getting the relief you need, or it is feeling less comfortable, then you can alter the setting accordingly. Some people have found that in certain situations, such as high stress, they find it helpful to increase the stimulation intensity.
6. The default stimulation cycle is 15 minutes, but you can adjust this to ensure the stimulation time feels comfortable. We recommend starting with a shorter intensity and building up how long you use the device for if you do not adjust to the sensation immediately. This type of stimulation will likely be a new sensation for you, so you may need some time to get comfortable. You do not need to use the device for as long as possible; shorter cycles can still be effective.
7. Decide when you are most likely to use the device, during the day or at night, and charge it when it is not in use, so it is ready when needed. Battery life will vary depending on cycle length and intensity, so monitor how long the device lasts on a single charge to help plan your future use.
